Drum Legend

I created a new Dorico file and added a Drum Set (full). I opened the Edit Percussion Kit to understand what instruments were in this set. What would be useful is to see a Legend to tie the notation with the instruments. For example:

*From Norman Weinberg, Guidelines for Drumset Notation.

I have a single file that contains 30 flows. Each flow was converted from Sibelius files. This single file contains 5 different drumsets when I really only want one set. Trying to consolidate the sets has become a challenge. So, a legend for any set created would be helpful.

Thank you in advance.

These things are absolutely doable in dorico. I created the following preface all within Dorico:

Here I was using custom master pages for the preface which includes music frames in which only the specific flows appeared. The legend are separate flows which were excluded from the “usual” music frame chain.

This is certainly advanced level in the approach, but allowed me to stay flexible and consistent with how I notated certain drums. I used Dorico’s percussion legends for the labeling.

A simpler, yet still rather advanced approach is to use graphic slices and image frames and master pages.

The simplest approach would be to create an extra layout with only legend flows, using the percussion legends, export them as graphics slices and use them in a word processor.

What you created is wonderful but I want the legend to be part of the Edit Percussion Kit or a popup legend that assists the composer in notation. It should not be a separate legend that the composer has to create in Dorico. A legend should be part of the musicians notation palette and needs to be part of this program. It should be something that the composer can output as well into a file easily to help musicians understand the notation.
