I am trying to make sense of this. Maybe I am confusing two different functions…
In the latest 14.0.20 release notes under stability section it says:
“* Dragging and dropping a VST Instrument onto an existing Sampler and/or Drum Track.”
I did not even know you could load a VST instrument on the drum or sampler track. But when I try to drag an VST instrument like Backbone onto a pad, it’s a no go, will not happen symbol.
What does this mean? The manual for the drum machine only mention loading an “instrument”. Is this an internal drum machine instrument only?
If this is not possible, I am hoping we can get something like Bitwig and Ableton live can already do with their drum machine/rack. Backbone is a very powerful drum/percussion sampler/synth and to be able to trigger a backbone(or whatever VST instrument) per pad, to build a kit would be very nice.
I see a few other posts asking for this same feature like loading an instance of Kontakt on a pad.
I kind of assumed that this was a typo in the release notes and that it should actually be a VST FX, that can be dragged and dropped onto the Audio inserts panel of those tracks?
Triggering multiple VSTi plugins from a single MIDI track is still a bit more convoluted in Cubase, although it’s possible.
One method is to send the source MIDI to all of the desired instrument tracks and use an input transformer on each target instrument to only allow the desired notes (or MIDI channels) for that instrument.
Some users prefer plugin chainers like Unify or similar to create what amounts to a super-instrument made from multiple individual instruments.
Actually I remembered I could just load a DAW in a DAW and use NI Maschine on a Cubase Track.. It lets you load a VST on each pad. Tons of versatility there. Not that I don’t like the drum machine.
That’s an interesting idea. I never really thought of that before. But I always liked how FLStudio can switch between a melody or a sample trigger with great ease. This sounds a bit similar to that.
And this will trigger from a drum pad controller like an MPD for that midi input?
update: ok I think I figured out what you are talking about using the drum map setup. I see each drum track can output to a different vst plugin and seems to work fine in the editor. But trying to use a drum pad controller to play each of those together like a kit…I can’t seem to get working.
If I put 16 instanced of backbone into a folder and if I put each backbone as a fixed note so it does not pitch, then enable monitor on the folder track, all of the tracks play/trigger together. Not on separate pads.
