I would like to have these slashes trigger a snare sound. I’m using a drum plugin (Superior Drummer 3) and everything else drum-wise is working fine. I’m using the “general midi” percussion map set up thusly:
obviously this seems to be the page where I would set this up… As you can see I attempted to add this to midi note Bb5…. Bb5 because it wasn’t used on the list, but of course I’m not seeing how to assign Slashes to Bb5 in the map to (what I would assume would) then send it as a “Snare Drum” note to the plugin? I realize the Percussion Map setup probably wouldn’t find “Slashes (with Stems)” just from the (carefully inputted to match) name string. I’m obviously missing something. Most likely between my ears.
Here’s another image just showing the basic setup and that slashes are included in the playback roll:
What jumps to mind is that you assigned Bb5 to the Snare drum member of your kit, not the Slashes instrument. So in your percussion map, change the instrument for Bb5 to Slashes and it should work as expected (assuming Bb5 is the note to trigger Snare drum in your VST).
@derAbgang Multiple names often trigger the same insturment in a percussion map. In the “general MIDI” map I’ve selected, both Electric Snare and Acoustic Snare seem to be set to trigger the “Snare Drum” (natural technique) so, it would seem the percussion map is translating a midi note it gets from Dorico (and the piano roll – if that’s what you call it – in Play mode) to the plugin. “Slashes” is not an option on the instruments drop down on the percussion maps window. – Of course I may be completely misunderstanding how this is supposed to work.
@DanielMuzMurray I think the answer is here in the Edit Percussion kit. However, when I have “Slashes” selected (5-line Staff Vet), both “Edit Percussion Playing Techniques” and “Edit Noteheads” is greyed out. Even on other instruments (like, snare) when I click on those buttons, I don’t really understand where it assigns them to a note that is sent to the plugin.
So @DanielMuzMurray is probably correct then, that you’ll need to create a custom instrument that uses slashed note heads - strange that in setup one can add it but yet unavailable anywhere else.
