Drum preset patterns are blank now

The drum presets can be selected, the pads load but when I switch to the pattern tab it’s blank. It all worked fine before. The last update may have caused it, but can’t confirm. Any suggestions on how to fix.

Since you’re using the term “pattern tab” shall we presume you’re talking about Groove Agent?

If so, did you load the kit into the Beat Agent using the “Load Kit With Patterns” option?

The native drum rack built in that became available in cubase 14.

Sorry, I don’t understand then. I don’t know what “pattern tab” you’re referring to on the Drum Machine track. I use pattern and midi tracks routed to the Drum Machine track. Hopefully someone else can help though.

Sorry, Editor tab I should have stated, before there was preset patterns but now it’s been blank if I load a preset.

OK, I think I get your overall question. When you create a Drum Machine track, and then load a track preset for the drum KIT - not “pattern,” but kit; the samples comprising the sounds loaded in the pads - clicking on the Track Preset Name with the “Drum Machine” lower project editor tab select let’s you load other KITS:

If you switch to the Editor, you’ll see the PATTERNS which can be applied to the corresponding pad samples on that kit. But you can’t “load a pattern” from there:

I don’t know of a way to actually load saved pattern other than if you’ve created one and saved the “Pattern Event” data in the track - then you could create additional patterns and select them with the track and even mix in Midi events with them.

So it you’re actually talking about loading a PATTERN, I don’t know if that’s possible. Just like how you can convert a pattern to midi, but you can’t convert the midi back to a pattern.

Even if you create a pattern in the editor and go back to the Drum Machine tab and save the preset, it doesn’t contain the patterns.

There are “Pattern Banks” presets in Media Bay, but as I understand it those are for Beat Designer (midi insert tool) only, and can’t be “fed” into the pattern editor.

Thanks @Thor.HOG you got it. I could have sworn there were drum kit presets that had associated drum patterns with them. So when you load a drum kit preset there would also be a pattern loaded in as well.

Maybe there’s drum patterns you load from the media bay? Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Now, Groove Agent does indeed have “patterns” that go along with it, and those can be selected and dragged into the timeline as MIDI files. I personally wouldn’t call them “patterns” per se, but rather just midi groove events - but I suppose pattern works there too:

Maybe that’s what’s you’re thinking of?

Not the grove agent ones, this was in the built in drum rack. Appreciate you walking me through it!

I cannot recall having seen the feature that the content of the Pattern Editor gets saved in a DrumMachine preset.
If you would like to store DrumKit and Pattern together yourself you can try to export the track as a track archive (menu File → Export → Track Archive).

I anticipate the next iteration will see convergence of Pattern preset interoperability between Beat Designer and Pattern Events, or at least providing for the Pattern Event being able to “import” the Beat Designer presets while allowing for its own preset management. To avoid confusion with the existing terminology, full interoperability would be best (in my mind) if compatibility with existing Beat Designer presets was maintained.

Given how feature-rich the first iteration is, I have no doubt Cubendo 15 will see improvements in that regard (in my opinion).
