Drum set notation

Drum Set Notation Assignment.dorico (536.5 KB).

3 questions:

1. In measures 3, 6, and 7 I want to change the quarter notes to comping slashes without stems. In ms. 3, beats 2 and 3 need to be slashes with stems. In ms. 7 beat 3 needs to stay as regular note heads. When I change the quarter notes to slashes it turns ALL the quarter notes in the whole project into slashes.

  1. In ms. 4 how do I get rid of the rests under the staff, and in mss. 5 and 6 over the staff.
  2. In ms. 6 where do you find a o symbol for open hi hat? I found the + ok.

Ope, I just noticed that the + symbols are no longer over the hi hat notes in ms 6, even though they were there. And I forgot to write hh stick over the notes

You can avoid almost all your issues if you use a Drum Kit instrument rather than a generic Voice. You can edit this kit and add slash instruments.

For the open playing technique borrow something from the other categories or create your own playing technique..

By the way in the standard drum notation the Hi-Hat is above the top line, not on the top line like the Ride Cym.

When I change it to drum set, it adds a staff, like a piano grand staff. I just need one staff. I’m sorry, but I need everything spelled out. I don’t understand almost anything in your answer. I just want answers to the 3 questions above, plus I don’t know why the + symbols are now under the staff in ms. 6

Here’s your file with a drumkit instead.

Thanks. Do you know how I can open that? I download it but I can’t open it, it says “unsupported file type”

@Beatsax
I have no problem opening the Dorico project uploaded by @jesele. Maybe restart you computer, redownload and try again to open it. Or from Dorico, menu File>Open.
