Dynamic markings below notes

When I complete a score and I go to place dynamics, they appear above the staff. How do I get them to appear below the staff?

Dynamics appear above by default for Vocal parts (becuase usually there are lyrics below).
If you create a non-vocal player, dynamics will be below by default (except for grand staff instruments, when they will be between the staves)

To move your dynamics: select all. Filter(select)>All Dynamics. Flip (F).

They do so on vocal staffs to not interfere with the lyrics. You can always use f to flip the position.

I know that, I’m writing for Bari Sax… Must have started the chart with a vocal and changed the instrument. Dorico must still think it is a vocal line…

Thanks, Still learning Dorico…

You can change instrument in setup mode.

If you (or an XML import) merely specified “Baritone” for the part, the program may have assumed a you meant a singer. It’s easy enough to correct that mistaken impression using Change Instrument in Setup mode, and that is preferable to merely flipping dynamics but leaving the program with a mistaken designation of the Saxophone you want.

Thanks all, didn’t realize that Dorico starts with a vocal as the 1st instrument. I get it, fixed and all is well. After 30+ years on Finale, I am still trying to shift gears to Dorico.

I had to create a special category in Finale called “Dynamics Above” to use with choral staves, so I was glad to find the Dorico Team had thought of that right from the beginning.
