I have set properties to Locally and then tried to edit/tweak the part but nothing seems to give me the same look as in the score. If I move the last mp to the right to make room for the middle mf, then adjust the decresc., it moves that mp into the next bar in the score which I don’t want. What is the best way to deal with this? I have a bunch of measures like this throughout this piece so it’s going to be quite time consuming to adjust each one. Hoping if I fix one, then I can copy/paste, but again, the score show them perfectly so I don’t want to mess it up. Those are grouped, by the way and linked to other sim. parts too. Thanks very much for the help. I can provide a snippet of the piece if that is helpful.
If I manually move the mf to the left, while everything is in alignment, it seems to devote way more space to the measures that have these dynamics that it would seem necessary.
Any way short of manual adjustments to tighten up the spacing in those bars? But this certainly gives me something to work with. Also, to answer your other question, I do not have a fixed number of bars per system for this part.
You could increase to 8, perhaps, but as you noted, it will make the bars wider, and maybe too wide. Best to enter these types of things in note input mode. Shift-N for note input, Shift-D p< enter, move cursor to middle of bar, Shift-D mp> enter, move cursor, Shift-D p enter. Here, in the first ex., I selected the note, Shift-D, and entered the whole group. In the second ex., I used note input mode, and put the f and last p a 16th before the middle and end. This is with the default 3 for the minimum length for hairpins. You can copy the dynamics and change the p to mp or whatever once you have made one.
Hi @Scherzo_Trading, beside the useful suggestions by @jesele, another way would be to set Note Spacing Changes for those bars, (followed by Note Spacing Change reset). You can easily copy the signposts anywhere to other layouts, if needed. It is very flexible and gives the desired result at the desired place:
Jes, this would need some copy paste. The advantage is that it would be local, so it would not influence the global hairpin minimum lengths (in case this would not be desirable).
I agree that the default behaviour with crowded dynamics needs some improvement.
Those are both excellent tips. Thank you both. I decided to re-enter the dynamics per @jesele’s suggestion and that provided the look that I need. I will need to remember this in the future as my tendency is to enter dynamics in the popover without being in input mode. As always, my appreciation to you both.
