Dynamics editor's corresponding CC values

The Dynamics editor values from -8 to +8 is quite coarse.

Therefore I’d like to know which CC values corresponds to ppp, pp etc. I find it hard to figure out by just adding dynamics to the score since there’s some setting that makes the CC fader in the instrument plugin move around a little during playback. Probably imitating natural behavior of the player not being able to exactly reproduce each note identically.

There might be some info in the user manual but I can’t find anything in the section describing the Dynamics editor.

Check the humanization settings under Playback Options. They influence the CC curve.

The levels are affected by the Dynamic curve (playback options>Dynamics), but also by each expression map switch. In addition to the humanization effects mentioned by @derAbgang.

When the expression map allows CC values from 1 to 127, the dynamic curve power is 2.5, the minimum and maximum dynamic levels are -6 and 6, and all humanization, polyphonic instrument voice balancing and note dynamics are disabled, here is the CC value for each dynamic level:

Dynamic │ CC Value
────────┼─────────
pppppp │ 1
ppppp │ 2
pppp │ 5
ppp │ 12
pp │ 24
p │ 41
mp │ 52
mf │ 76
f │ 87
ff │ 104
fff │ 116
ffff │ 123
fffff │ 126
ffffff │ 127

Interesting mirror-image pattern of increments:

Thanks, John! It would have taken quite some time for me to do.

I don’t (yet) understand the thing about the dynamic curve power. Dynamic levels from -6 to 6? Are you referring to dB or the Dynamics editor (whose values are between -8 and 8)?

Dynamic marks on the score from 6 p (pppppp) to 6 f (ffffff).

If this is set to (say) -3 to +1 then the entire 1-127 cc range will be squashed between ppp and f.
