Dear Community –
I’ve searched the Forum for something similar to my issue but can’t find anything that matches, so here goes:
I’m finishing a chamber work for flute, cello, and piano, and am having some trouble editing cues and ossia staves.
-
In one section, the piano is the best choice to cue the other parts, but it also uses the extremes of the instrument’s range. In the score I have those passages with 8va lines. But in the flute and cello parts, no 8va, leading to a lot of ledger lines:
This makes the individual parts messy and creates a problem for editing:
So my first question is this: Is there a way to edit cues so that I could add 8va lines to the cues themselves, or even change stem direction? (I realize the rests in the existing part may prevent that.) I can’t even select the cued notes in Write mode, much less edit them, and Engrave mode doesn’t have a way to add 8va lines. -
In another section, there’s a duo for flute and cello that’s rhythmically complex, so I created an ossia staff for the cello so the player could coordinate with the flute part:
Seemed like an elegant solution, but the ossia staff shows up in the score as well, minus the cue, which looks less than ideal:
So my second question is: Is it possible to hide that ossia staff? I tried the Manual Staff Visibility dialog (inserted a system break to facilitate it), but that seems not to see ossia staves, just the main staff.

Any advice or guidance on these would be greatly appreciated!
