Elements 12 was supposed to be a nice upgrade but it's killing me

I’ve made countless recordings on Cubase the past 10 years. Kind of had it mastered with recording, editing, etc. But after upgrading to Elements 12 recently I’m really lost. I have music in my project but no sound in my headphones. When I go into the Input/Output section I see ‘not connected’ for Output. Any idea what it needs me to do? I’ve tested my headphones and they work. Why isn’t Cubase ‘seeing’ them?

Also, my whole workspace is grey and black. On previous versions of Cubase each track would have it’s own color. Is there some reason it’s not like that anymore?

Sorry for the questions but I feel like all of my knowledge of this program is useless. Getting into Elements 12 I feel like a newbie again and it’s very frustrating.

What you describe are user configurable things.

I mean… did you click on it to modify the output? what happens?

If that does nothing, I suggest you

  1. quit Cubase

  2. move the User Settings Folder, named Cubase LE AI Elements 12_64 found in %appdata%\Steinberg\ (paste into the Start Menu) to the Desktop.

  3. Launch Cubase

This will initialize Cubase and upon launch it will attempt to read your prefs from the old version you had installed.

Let us know how that goes.

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. I’ve made some progress on this. I upgraded to 12 because I got a new laptop and it was time to get Cubase up to date too. I discovered there was no ASIO driver pre-installed. So I’ve been able to start a project from scratch and get sound from my backing tracks. Tomorrow I will attempt to record the guitar through my Yamaha THR amp and hopefully all goes well.

I still have not been able to get previous projects to play sound that were originally created on my old computer. I can live with that I guess. I’ll just recreate them from scratch again. It seems like I’m probably one click or one setting away from them working but I can’t seem to find it.

Thanks again for your help. I’ll keep chipping away at this and see if I can figure it out.

Mike
