Hi - I’m a past Finale user, learning Dorico. Goal: Piano duet, 1st piano plays an octave above written. (Goal is playback is at pitch, which is an octave above the transposed part.).
Following instructions on support, I should be able to access Clef and Transposition Overrides from the Layouts menu. However, I see far fewer options. What am I missing? The help document doesn’t mention anything about versions etc. Searched help, youtube etc - everyone shows an option here that opens the dialog, which i do not see.
Hi @b.catapillar , I am not sure I understand what you need. Anyway, would maybe the usage of Uncommon Clefs “8va Alta” with specified Octave shift, be a possibility?:
Notice: the Clef and transposition overrides… dialogue seems to be only available in Dorico Pro (and is not mentioned in Dorico Elements Manual):
Thanks for the reply. Maybe this is a noob issue. I only see “Common Clefs”. I upgraded from SE to Elements to see if that would fix possible feature limitations. But still nothing but “Common Clefs”. I must be missing something. Thank you!
@b.catapillar
Oh, sorry, yes, the Uncommon Clefs are only in Pro (sorry that I didn’t check this before). But the Octave shift property is available also in Elements.
EDIT: you need to reapply the clefs to have the Octave shift property to appear:
Then you would need to make a note for the player, with Text, to tell the player that it should play an octave higher as notated, and the Octave shift property should take care of the desired playback in Dorico.
