As we migrate to from elicenser to Steinberg Licensing , if I upgrade to Cubase 13 from Cubase 7 (on an older computer) , can I use both products? My eliscenser is used with WaveLab elements 8, Cubase AI, Cubasis 3, and my Cubase 7.5 e license opens Cubase 7 and the FIRST version of Cubase LE . The Cubase LE program is on a 2005 Mac computer with Tiger.
Yes you can ! Cubase 7.x (the full version) uses the e-Licenser key, the other ones using the soft e-Licenser scheme (I’m less sure about Wavelab 8 Elements and Cubasis 3, though, but I guess they do as well). In both cases, AFAIK, your present versions won’t stop working because you add a Steinberg product with the new Steinberg Licensing one.
FWIW, I still have installed here, Cubase 10.5.30 + 11.0.41 (full versions, both using the e-Licenser key) and Cubase 12.0. 70 + 13.0.41 (using the new Steinberg Licensing). No issue of any kind : I can launch any of these versions when I want, as my e-Licenser key is constantly connected to my system.
This said, maybe it’s time for me to act and uninstall 10.5.30 & 12.0.70, as I almost no longer use them, especially the first one…
bad news… when I updated my eliscenser key to Cubase 13, I no longer can get into cubase 7 on my old computer… I have several projects till on Cubase 7 Im working on…
The cubase 13 updater needed the proof of my eliscenser… when that was finished, I can get into cubase 13 without the eliscenser key… Im afraid of this transition with the elicenser that I wont be able to get in cubase 7 anymore… I have my license key that I have form my program but typing it in wont work to enter…I’ve worked around this when I succeeded to get into both cubase 7 and cubase sx3 but I think there’s more to it now… Help!!
Thank you for writing back so fast! No… when I have the liscenser in and launch cubase 7, I get the “no valid license found sign” window, as if the the usb licenser wasn’t connected
Ok, that’s strange. Is the eLicenser and the Cubase license listed in the eLicenser Control Center? Maybe it helps to perform the maintenance procedure there.
fortunately I did this before I updated… here is the elicenser list BEFORE and AFTER the update… maybe this can help… I really appreciate your assistance!
Great, thanks for the screenshot. Everything looks fine in your MySteinberg account. Do you see the same licenses if you open the eLicenser Control Center (the application) on your computer where the eLicenser is plugged in?
As you seem to have two USB-eLicensers, ensure to plug in the correct one.
here is the eliscenser control center on MacOS 10.8.5 … The new license reads as “unknown application”… I’ve tried to updated the database but it says my version is too old… maybe I should update the eliscenser program on this computer after all these years… Hopefully I can and hopfeully this is the issue.

Yes, definitely. There is a newer version of the eLCC. Maybe the currently installed one can’t read the updated data from the dongle properly. So, I suggest to update it:
The main download (latest version) is valid from OSX 10.9 so you’ll need to click on the alternative versions for support purposes to find the version for 10.8
For OS 10.5.8 I had to update the license database files (.sld) manually … also could have done it that way for 10.8.5 but there was an elicenser update for that computer…
