eLicenser Service ending - stuck when upgrading to Steinberg Licensing

Hi everyone! I’m trying to update my Cubase 11 eLicenser service to the new Steinberg Licensing tool as described in the article “Steinberg-Licensing-Upgrades-from-eLicenser-based-products”.

However, after entering my Download Access Code, I do not have the option to click “continue” and then “upgrade license”, only to Active License (which I do not need as I’ve activated and registered it when I bought it).

I’ve made sure to upgrade both the eLicenser and the Steinberg Download Assistant to the latest versions.

What am I doing wrong? (screenshot attached)

Many thanks,

Daniel

Welcome to the Forum.

What do you mean by updating Cubase 11 to the new Steinberg Licensing? Cubase 11 does not support this, you need at least Cubase 12 or, the current release, Cubase 13. So you need to get an update to a later release.

You can find the products, that will remain on the eLicenser in this document.

Thanks for clearing that up Juergen! So Cubase 11 does not support this.

Please allow me a follow-up question: what options do I have if the laptop which I am currently using (and to which the current eLicenser and software are registered) dies following the end-of-service of the eLicenser, and I want to continue using Cubase 11 on a different laptop?

(I registered the eLicenser license on the Steinberg website to my account on my first install).

You did not mention what edition of Cubase you are using. In case you are using the USB eLicenser it will simply continue to work, it doesn’t need the eLicenser Servers to enable your license. So all you do is connect the dongle to the other laptop and it will work.

In case of a Soft eLicenser it is different, because this license is stored on disk on your machine and can not be transferred anymore, after the shutdown.

So in case you do not want to update to a new release, just make sure your USB eLicenser is working. If you have a Soft eLicenser, buy a dongle and move the license to that USB stick.

Apologies; I’m using soft eLicenser.

I see now that an upgrade from Cubase 11 to 13 is relatively cheap; would that solve this whole situation, without the need for a USB licenser, etc.?

My main concern is to be able to keep and install Cubase on a different laptop going forward.

Many thanks,

Daniel

The upgrade will give you a license for Cubase 13 and that uses Steinberg Licensing.

In case of the Soft eLicenser you need to run the Activation on the machine with the eLicenser and after it has been updated you can install Cubase 13 on any other machine and simply open the Activation Manager to activate the license (up to three at the same time).

Just keep in mind that your Soft eLicenser can not be moved to a different machine, after the shutdown. You still can use it for Cubase 11, as long as the machine, where it is stored, is alive.

Thanks for your detailed answer Juergen, greatly appreciated! Guess I’ll just upgrade to 13.

Kindest regards,

Daniel
