@Tristis I find it offputting that you have to get political in a scholar discourse. It seems to me that this was the whole point of your contribution.
I’ve discovered a way to do it all inside Dorico.
You need to use Unicode character combining double breve below, code: U+035C. You can also copy it here: ͜
It’s a bit tricky to stick to the lyrics window and hard to move around because it has no horizontal space on its own, but it works. It’s supported even if you use uncommon fonts (I’m using Hercules here).

I did read your post, but I couldn’t find the link, nor in this thread nor in your personal website (which does some strange things). I thought it was something only for your personal use. Thank you anyway.

It uses an underscore as a zero-width glyph. You have to “Edit Single Lyric” to insert it. You can do one, two, or three underscores for various lengths.
