Empty Measures Equally Spaced

Hello, can Dorico display a number of empty measures all with the same width, without empty measure rest showing?

Yes, you can hide bar rests in empty bars - if you remove rests, Dorico doesn’t have anything to space, so the bars shrink up if there’s nothing on other staves to be spaced.

If you’re making up manuscript paper to be printed out and used for e.g. exercises, other forum members might have additional tips.

There are several ways to do this. You can make the rests invisible by selecting them then going to Properties/Common/Color and setting the alpha channel to 0. You’ll have to select Color on export to have that active. If you are just setting up manuscript to print and you want to remove whole rests from an entire project all at once, you can go to Engrave/Music Symbols, then under the Rests category select the Whole rest and just delete it so there’s no glyph assigned.

Todd, why would you bother doing this when there’s a Layout Option to not show rests in empty bars?

Duh, yeah, just unclick that. It’s been a while since I set up my manuscript PDFs. Obviously that’s the best way, LOL.

What about “empty measures all with the same width” mentioned in the original post?
Does that happen automatically on parts? If not, is there a way to make it happen?

Here is an example with four bars per system. Just change a couple of layout options and hide the time signature (see the gif).
