As the images below show, I want to end the 8va line right at the start of the bar so that the lower voice note isn’t affected by the 8va line (which is obviously necessary for the top voice), but when I drag the end of the 8va line these are the only 2 possibilities of alignment that the software gives me. I know it could be worked around in the engraving mode but that would impact the playback and I’d like to know if something can be done in the write mode. Thanks for any help!

What you can do here is delete your existing octave line, then select only the notes to which you want it to apply – you can make a marquee or other selection and then right click and choose Filter to select only the notes in the one voice.
Invoke the Clefs popover with Shift+C, type in 8 – and then dismiss the popover with Alt/Opt+Enter, instead of just Enter. This will make the line apply only to the selected voice.
