I’m trying to enter song lyrics into a Ukulele Lead Sheet, but I can’t get past the first word. If I press the space bar to advance to the next word, the lyrics popover closes.
I’m guessing that the presence of the Slash region is an obstacle to adding lyrics.
With regular notation, the spacebar advances the popover to the next note. There are no notes here, where do you expect it to go?
By the way, you can in fact put lyrics under slashes, but it’s a much more manual process. Alt-Shift-space gives you a non-breaking space that doesn’t affect the popover. And with the caret you can invoke the popover wherever you like. But it will be a faff doing the whole song like that, and lots of the auto-spacing that Dorico does with lyrics will not work.
An alternative approach: create an extra (dummy) player, write out the song in actual notes, attach the lyrics to those in the normal way, then select all the lyrics, copy & paste them all at once at the right spot in the slash region.
I don’t think it’s an unreasonable question! Most guitar/ukulele song charts use chord symbols and slash rhythm notation.
My work-around was to use rhythmic slash input rather than create slash regions. Then the lyric popover works as it should.
