Hi. I get interrupted during recording
[Recording error: Audio drop out detected.]
It comes after 5-10 seconds of recording.
I have to put the buffer size in 512 (which I think is a lot for recording) but I don´t know if thats really the underlying issue cause I think a have decent equipment for this, dont I?
What should I do cause Id like to record with a 48/64 buffer size?
Thanks in Advance!
I have a Ryzen 7 3700X which, even if not the same as your processor, have nearly the same performances. I never have dropouts issues when using a project template with 5 audio tracks, about 10 VSTis (5 set as instruments tracks, 2 as instrument racks, the last being external instruments with their channel return), something like 10 FX instances set as inserts in different channels and mainly 2 set in FX tracks. This, using a 128 samples latency for recording but granted, I usually record just one track after the other.
The first thing that I would do is to test my system during something like 20 minutes with LatencyMon :
Its installation is easy and it will give you already hints about what could eventually go in the way. Eventually, post a screnshot of the results. A lot of things can bring their own set of issues, especially wifi, video driver, network settings, BIOS ones, etc.
Beside this, and concerning the overall behavior of your setup, a lot of things depend also of the plug-ins used and how they are set in the project involved, when recording : in example, setting 5 FXs as an insert chain on one track can strain one of the processor cores, especially if some of them brings latency (eventually, look for the Channel latency slot in the MixConsole Window Layout).
Let us know how thing go, once the test eventually done…
Hi friend, thanks for your reply. I’ll add the images of the LatencyMon test, also one of the Studio Setup window on cubase and the control panel, maybe I messed up the settings. The weird things is that this can happen when I have no plugins running and recording the first track, so I really dont know what may be causing that. Do you have any source you could share me so I can investigate about what could be causing the issue?
As is my first daw I have the free trial cubase version, and Im loving it I want to buy it when its over, but might that be the problem? Thank you so much!
Hi again, @Saeuz
I’m afraid I’m running out of ideas, as your system setup obviously isn’t the culprit : your system has better overall results than mine, and I’ve never experienced an ‘audio drop out’ warning after 10 seconds of recording. Beside this, the issue occurs without any plug-in involved. So, also no immediate idea about a source that could be useful, but internet sometimes hide gems : maybe Youtube, Reddit, Gearsapce… ?
Two other things, maybe :
on which drive are you recording and how is it set on your system ?
Apparently, your setup isn’t at 512, but 1024 samples of latency. I have no experience of an audio system based on the Focusrite ASIO driver, but I guess that it can work with a much less value and I’ve seen in several different sources that too much latency doesn’t help, rather the opposite. So, how does your system behave when reducing the latency - something like 256 (~6 ms) or even 128 samples ?
Beside this, could you post, though, a screenshot of your arrange page when the issue occur, with the inspector of the involved recording track opened and its Routing section unfolded ?
No, the Trial version of Cubase is exactly the same as the ‘regular’ one. Only the licence is different. I know this because, as you, I’m still using the trial version in its 14.0.10 flavor.
1st question: what hdd/ssd/m.2 are you using. 2nd question: what do you have running in the background. You may have some unnecessary services running that might interfere with performance.
Safe mode in an interface is additional buffering…if anything it should help.
Have you done the basic windows tweaks for an audio system?
Set power scheme to high performance
Disable USB selective suspend
Disable power management for anything called a usb hub in device manager (allow computer to turn off this device etc)
Hello friend I think I might temporarly solve the issue, and since you participated on this topic I qwanted to let you know what I did. I don’t know why this worked, or which of the two steps taken did the work, but know I can recoird with lower buffer size without audio drop out. At the beggining I thought the issue was that my power supply, is really low, my computer is overgrowing the amount of power it recieves so, maybe it has to do a bit to do with that too. But what I did is:
1- On studio Setup I unchecked the 'Activate MultiProccesing" box.
2- On Studio Setup I went to the device “Focusrite USB Asio” the interface I have and unactivate the ports I wasnt using, just let ‘Input 1’ and the ‘Outputs’ active
