It shows a problem with the eLicenser.
Can anybody help? Perhaps a Finale developper from coda-music? Meanwhile, Dorico’s behavior suggests that Finale developers are at work…
Thank you in advance.

translated error warning:
A problem has occurred with the eLicenser
The eLicenser initialization has hung. You can continue to use all products based on Steinberg Licensing. If you want to use your eLicenser-based products, restart your computer.

Or what if you just start the eLicenserControlCenter app, that will also start the underlying eLicenser infrastructure. Does that work then?
Another question, did you have a USB-eLicenser in the past or just a Soft-eLicenser? If the former one, is it properly connected to your computer?
After a start of my PC and Dorico ater a few minutes the message appears again. Another message is, that I’ve no license for Halion 7. Even if no Instrument uses Halion but all Halion Sonic SE.
I had no USB-Licenser but allways the Software-Licenser.
I thought the activation manager controls the licenses?
You have to be precise here. What does it say exactly, you don’t have a license for HALion 7 or HALion Sonic 7? Because included in the Dorico license is the one for HALion Sonic7 but not for HALion 7. Please clarify, thanks.
Hello Ulf,
thank you for your answer. The message is “… no license for HALion 7”. But this message didn’t appear for about one and a half year (since I changed from finale to Dorico). Why does it appear now when I never had a HALion license but only a HALion Sonic license? In the 1st case it appeared, one of the instruments was adjusted to use HALion (instead of HALion Sonic). Ater changing the settings of this instrument to HALion Sonic the message didn’t appear again.
The 2nd time it appeared no instrument was set to HALion.
The first thing I learned now is: As a “normal” Dorico 5 user I have no HALion license but only a HALion Sonic license.
How can I avoid that the message "… no HALion 7 license… ) appears.
Are you sure you don’t have any instrument which points to H7? I still don’t understand why in your first message (and in the title) the issue comes from eLC: both D5 and H7 use SAM… Unless you have to upgrade some eLC license, but if you don’t have an USB, I can only think to Dorico, otherwise I would have imagined an H6 Usb license to be upgraded to H7…
Sorry, just speculating…
Please go to the Dorico preferences and look in the VST plug-in tab for the option “Preferred HALion plug-in” (or similar name). Is that one by accident set to HALion and not HALion Sonic.?
thank you for your help. In the tab “Playback” (Wiedergabe) I found “Preferred HALion Plug in” (Bevorzugtes HALion Plug-in). I changed the settings from “HALion” to “HALion sonic”. I hope the error occures no longer.

Why is there a HALion 7 installation on my System? Can I deinstall it to avoid further problems?
Maybe I’ve installed it accidentally at the intstallation of the latest Dorico 5 Update?
And it will stay fine from now on.
See, you had HALion 7 installed and then the other preference setting said “use the best available” and in that case it is HALion 7 (even though you don’t have a license for it).
Now that you uninstalled HALion 7, HALion Sonic 7 is the best available and that one is covered by the Dorico license.
So everything is set now as it should and makes most sense.
Perfect @Rainer_Hornig
Check the thread as solved: Ulf’s explanation is the complete clarification!
(Personally I still don’t understand the eLC error if you didn’t have an old Hx license, but I’m glad you’ve solved now!)
