Sure, if you zoom in, you’ll see the audio waveform — but I keep wondering why the volume button was moved. It worked just fine in Cubase 13. Maybe it’s just me, but I often end up deleting events I think are empty, only to realize later they actually contain audio. Or maybe i can adjust some settings?

you could enlarge the display of the waveform, I think that would be the easiest way because you can set it up here:
or via key command Shift + G/H.
Another idea would be to enlarge the vertical height of the selected track(s) via key command.
Or you could disable this button altogether
