I created an mp3 file for a singer and sent it to her. She wanted the song in a lower key, so I transposed the song from D - Bb. When I export the song in Bb it is still playing in D. I exited the program, reloaded the file, created a new audio file and it is still in ‘D’. How do I get it to export in the correct key?
Are you on Mac? If so, make sure that you delete the old file before exporting the new one. Otherwise the old file will be kept in some cache and played back from that and not the new one. Don’t know where this cache actually is, in OSX itself or iTunes, but it is definitely not Dorico.
I not only deleted the file first, I told Dorico to export the file to a different folder.
It still plays it in the original key. There was not a way to create a different file name or I would have tried that too.
My latest problem is that I exported the audio to a WAV file and it put the part in the correct key. However, when I go back and try to export all the parts, only the one part gets played. It sounds like the same problem only in a different scenario.
I deleted both files (mp3 & wav) in iTunes and now it plays correctly - so the issue is with iTunes and not Dorico.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Yes, this is a frequent problem with iTunes, because the path to an item can be manually changed, and opening a file with the same filename does not add it to a playlist you may already be viewing. Very confusing; no hope of improvement.
I changed the default app for playing mp3’s on my Mac from iTunes to Quicktime Player.
How to:
- Right click on mp3 file
- Click on “Get Info”
- Select “Open with”
- Change iTunes to Quicktime Player
- Click “Change All” button.
Did that solve the problem?
If not, perhaps you could post a snippet of the troublesome file for others here to investigate.
Yes. Deleting the files in iTunes - then playing them again, played the new versions in the correct key.
However, a better solution is to have Quicktime play the files instead. Otherwise, I would need to delete the files in iTunes everytime I made a change.
