Export Cubase Instrument Track Info

Hi !
Is there a way to export information about Instrument Tracks ?
I’d like to have a list of all instrument track used in the project with this info .
-Name and Version of the plugin used ( native and 3rd parties plugins );

  • Name of the Preset used;

Currently, I’m taking notes in the notepad section of each instrument track, but it requires a lot of time and sometimes I forget to take note.

This could be helpful when you reinstall OS in your DAW for example .

Thans and Merry Xmas All !!!

Hi,

sorry, I am not aware of such an option.

Basically, I would make a list of all plugins that you have installed on a given system. If you rebuild this system or you set up a new system you will always have this plugin list as a base. Be as specific as possible including ratings, serial numbers etc.

If you open an old project and you’ll see missing plugins/instruments despite having installed all former plugins - there’s a workaround:
Save the affected area as a preset (e.g. track preset “Sherlock”) and open it with a text editor in
C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Track Presets\

This way, you should be able to retrieve the missing info.

It’s not what you have been asking for - this is a worst case scenario approach in case there’s an old project with a plugin that is no longer installed/supported whatsoever.
Anyways, maybe this helps you from going through this tedious task of manually labelling every single track including presets. That must be a lot of work.

Another tip: If you want a future-proof base backup always export everything as audio files (dry/wet).

In the Cubase 14&15 VST Plugin Manager you can generate and save a readable Plugin Report file. Though this report doesn’t list track assignments, it does show the number of usages (instances) of each plugin in the project.

Furthermore, in C15 you can visually filter the plugin list to show only the plugins currently used in the project.

Not exactly what you have in mind, but perhaps a step in that direction.

That’s a very cool feature I wasn’t aware of, thank you @ASM :+1:

From the plugin manager, you can generate a Plugin Report:

C14, bottom left:

C15, top right:

The result is a text file that you can save e.g. in the project folder, with a list of all plugins installed, their versions, their file location and the number of instances used and so on.

Presets names is not possible, especially with third party plugins, as most of them have their own preset management system. The question is, why is it necessary, Cubase saves the current state of the plugin in the project file anyway…

Thanks ! it could be a good start point .
The real problem is that I use to uninstall unused plugin and If I try to open after several months a project with an uninstalled plugin I would like to know the exact version and the preset in order to rebuild the situation :slight_smile:

You don’t need to know the preset. As @fese said above, Cubase stores all the plugin parameters with the project file. All you would have to do if you encounter a project with a missing plugin is to close Cubase (without saving the project), reinstall your missing plugins and reopen your project.
