Export from Cubase with Groups and Chords

Hi!

I use Cubase to produce my stems. In Cubase i route all tracks (VST-Instruments and audio-tracks) into groups (e.g. keys, bass, drums etc) to do this.
Export the groups from Cubase via VL-Export ends in empty files.

If I do this with Cubase-Mixdown i get my audio files but then I have no Chord-Track.
If I export the Chord-Track seperated with VL-Expot I cannot bring this Chord-Track into the VL-song without kick-out the existing tracks.
So, I make two exports. Cubase Mixdown and Cubase VL-Export
I generate a new song with VL-Import only with the Chords and the “original” song with the audio-tracks etc.
I have no way found to copy the Chord-Track from “chordonly” song into the song the track originaly belongs.

Any help apriciated

Why not just Rendering Tracks (Rendering Tracks • Cubase Artist Help • Reader • Steinberg) and then export it to VST Live? the Render Selection Dialog Steinberg

or course it does. There aren’t any files in GROUP channels

What? All existing MIDI and AUDIO tracks are wiped out at CHORDtrk import, are you sure?

Thanks for reply!

Thats approximately the way i do it. But i use mixdown do get all audiofiles in one process and copy the files into VL-Template. Thats the way i have the smallest possible deviation.

If i export the instruments and audio-tracks via rendering i had to do it for every track. Sometimes more than 50.
Thats a lot work to generate 10 to 20 audio-tracks with a viriaty of instruments in each stem.
I often had to do it for more than 30 songs.

The shortest way (for me) ist to do it with cubase mixdown and shift tha tracks in a VL-template.
But the biggest pain is to make the chord- and lyrics-track. So i try to find a way to do it in a short process because i had this data already in cubase.
For me it would be usefulle if i can (after the mixdown-exported song is in VL ready to use) export it via cubase-VL-export the second time and copy the chord-track to the existing song. But this did not work.
The (for me) easieast way will be the VL-export from Cubase and get my group-tracks in an audiofile like in cubase-mixdown. This includes all datas and tracks.
In my case it is not possible to use all VST-Instruments in VL because the user/musician had to install all this instruments on the computer on stage. So, the via VL-Export exported groups have no funktion in VL.

Theres a little misapprehension.
If i have a song in VL and i will add a chord-track (made in cubase with VL-export) i can choose to import it in VL only with “new song”. Otherwise it kicks out all tracks from an existing song. VL warns about this.
I have not found a way to bring a newly exported chord-track into an existing song.
So i made a “new song” in VL and tried to copy the chord-track from this “second song” to the song it belongs to.
But this is not gonna work - mybe i do something wrong.

I know. But in my case i cannot use the exported groups in the normal way. I can not install all VST-Instruments on VL to use groups like in cubase. Instead i use audio files. So the groups did not work for me in the proper way.
So i copy the (cubase mixdown) audio tracks in a VL-Template.
Wenn try the (in my case) “reverse” way and first export the chord track into an VL-song the template is not gonna work.

Well, take a different approach:
First, export to VST Live,
the tempo track, the chord progression, and the time signature
and then just drag and drop your audio mix created in Cubase there and that’s it.

not by importing, but simply by dragging the audio file onto the audio track and onto the desired beat

Thats the way i sometimes use. But in this case the prepared VL-Template is not gonna work.
My template inkludes a lot of things used to control midi units. Some of this control parts cannot be preproduces in cubase.
Thats not THE problem of the VL-Universe. But maybe there is a way i did not know.

I count on the VL-Team. They solved all problems and wishes in the past. So i am hopefull they made it going ( if i am not the only user with this “problem”)

Formulate your feature request correctly, and describe how you envision it as a separate topic.
In this case, there’s no other way right now.

Yes, of course, it would be great if all the automation and other settings from Cubase could be imported, but this is just a dream for now, and will most likely remain so. And everything will have to be finished manually in VST Live😉

No, I think you’ll find a like-minded person here:Cubase integration

That’s exactly it, it’s not a problem as such, it can be solved, yes it requires a bit more manipulation, but in the end everything works.
