Hi,
After exporting a pdf file, using the “Filename Options” function, the name of the file does not pick the right flow name.
It seems to be sticking to a previous export task.
See pics.
Thanks!

There’s a difference between the Flow Name and the Flow Title, and you can change them independently in Project Info:
However, if they are not (yet) different and you adjust it in Setup mode:
And as you can see, the PDF export uses the Flow Name, so if you have only adjusted the Flow Title, that will not show here.
(The reason for the difference is so you can use the Name for internal organisation and the Title for printing, if desired.)
Many thanks..!
I got it!
Now I understand -
mmmm … I did change both the Project Info Flow Title AND the Flow Name (located in Setup mode), and although the exported pdf image is correct, the naming of the file is still wrong. It keeps referencing an earlier flow of the same piece.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
That’s certainly strange, could you share a (cut-down) project file so we can take a closer look?
(@animamusica sent me a demo file via PM but I’m answering publicly for the benefit of other forum users, and perhaps the developers too.)
Indeed it’s nothing to do with the Flow Title/Name difference, sorry for that distraction.
As shown in Setup mode, you have removed ‘Flow Ref 1’ from all layouts, which indeed has the effect of only printing ‘Flow Ref 2’. So far so good.
However, the print range in the export dialog is still set to the default, which is All (Flows, that is.)
The file name recipe (specifically, the $w
bit) can only show one flow name. And it doesn’t “know” which flows are included in the layout so it just picks one, seemingly at random.* It’s really only meant to be used in conjunction with the printing of individual flows, which you can set under the aforementioned Print Range. If you use that and only choose ‘Flow Ref 2’, the exported file name will be correct.
*There must be some underlying logic dictating which flow it picks but I don’t know what it is. Perhaps if the export isn’t restricted to a single flow, $w
could resolve to something generic like Multiple Flows to avoid this confusion? I’ll let @dspreadbury weigh in on that.
Thanks for the insights.!
Yes, I confirm that if you select the specific flow from the Print Range options, the file name is correct.
I wonder if this is a new bug, as I always exported my pdf’s using the “All” Print range and the filenames were correct.
At some point it didn’t work anymore.
What do you consider “correct” here? If multiple flows are being printed, what should the flow name token show?
It would be the flow name, as specified in the setup section.
After additional tests, I confirm that if you select Flows from the Job Type Menu in Printing Mode, Dorico in fact pick the correct flow name for each flow.
If you have several flows assigned to different instruments, the exported file name remains attached to their respective flows.
May be I changed this setting at some point without noticing.
Sorry, I missed the point that even though you’ve asked for all flows in Print mode, there is in fact only one flow wired up to the layout in Setup mode.
