I exported a project from Cubase as Dorico file to Dorico and the result was quite disappointing. In the Cubase project was one instance of HalionSonic with a few voices and as playback instrument in Dorico was also chosen HalionSonic. So, it should exactly sound the same. But it didn’t . In fact the sound was quite different . Some instruments were chosen wrong, but even after correcting the instruments, it didn’t sound the same. Even worse: in Cubase there were 8 tracks, in Dorico exist 8 tracks too, but the individual instruments can’t be seen as stems. Only the whole score exists.
Has anyone experiences with the export from Cubase to Dorico? Does it work well?
No - currently it is only designed to bring over the appearance of the score from Cubase to Dorico, so that how the score appears in Cubase should be how it shows up in Dorico as well. Nothing playback related is retained so it will certainly play back differently in Dorico from how it did in Cubase.
The playback system is too different between Dorico and Cubase currently to allow for the playback information to be retained.
The wrong instruments being selected were probably due to not selecting the correct instrument in the Cubase Score Editor. You have to choose the correct instrument there first and make sure everything shows up correctly there first before bringing it into Dorico. If you do not do this, Cubase will try to “guess” what the instruments are and in many cases its guesses will be wrong and then Dorico will load the wrong instrument.
