Maybe I’ve missed something with the last few updates.
Aside from using third party hosts/scripts, is there a way NOT to play the legato technique on the first note of a slurred phrase?
The first note should get a full attack, THEN the legato effect kicks in for the rest of the passage.
Desired: Taa, la, laa, la, Taa, la.
Getting: laa, la, laa, Ta, laa, Ta.
Once upon a time it seems like adding a delay here would work.
I’ve tried the delay tactic with a number of approaches to legato implementation. CC68 Legato pedaling, Key-switches, Channel bouncing, and Program changes.
Seems like the delay tactic in expression maps was working for a while, so I’d gradually began drifting away from relying on hosting instrument templates in a side host (bidule) to correct such things. Some updates later and Yoda has returned.
Here lately no matter what I try with direct expression maps, I get a soft legato attack on the first note of slurred phrases. It makes phrases sound ‘backwards’.
Taken over my virtual orchestra, Yoda has! I can hear him insisting, “To restore balance to the galaxy, use the force (bidule) you must!”
Note: When using bidule to delay channel bounces, it’s important to echo a note off back to the first channel. It’s also a good idea to echo CCs to all used channels too (especially sustain pedals). A quick fix like this can send every note-off and desired CCs to all 16 channels as an insurance policy that ‘delayed channel bounces’ won’t lead to ‘sticky/hung notes’.
