hi all, ive had an issue with the external editor since its been introduced, and it could totally a workflow issue, but im hoping someone could give me some suggestions-
when i attempt to use the external editor function in WL it tells me to select a section of the audio file. i select a range, and then it opens in RX. upon saving, it uploads the corrected audio back into the montage but there’s a split in the audio file where I’ve selected, as shown in screenshot below. the issue for me, besides being extra steps and there being additional places to make mistakes, is that if the original audio file doesn’t have enough silence baked in at the top and tail, then i cant select an audio range without a split going through music. and then id be dealing with additional clips with different clip effects for a single song.
Not sure what you mean. This could be a normal behavior. I mean, if you select only a part of the clip, this part is replaced with a new clip that contains the processed data.
Thanks for the response @PG1
I guess my concern is that when i edit in RX via WL, the resulting splits in the audio file aren’t ideal. It may be remedied by consolidating the resulting files if I could figure that out.
Is there a way that the resulting file can incorporate seamlessly back into the montage? That is, no splits in the audio file?
Or if not, is there a way I can edit an entire audio file in RX via WL? Instead of selecting a range of the audio file?
I use “E” to open the clip’a audio in the editor, select the part I want to fix, “Open in external editor” (RX) , Fix what’s needed, Go back to Wavelab’s edit window and "Save as new file (filename_RX.wav)
That way I still have the original audiofile intact in case I mess up.
Sometimes I use the Montage, but yeah, If I had plugins on the clip, I’ll have to copy them too.
If I don’t have a copy of the original audio, I’ll duplicate it first, edit outside of WL in RX, and replace the clip’s audio in the Montage to be safe
Sorry i haven’t followed up on this, but just wanted to say thanks! This workflow is perfect. When accessing RX via WL’s editor it doesn’t create those splice’s which was my biggest issue with it via montage.
