"Extract Audio From Video File" Not Working

Hello everyone;
I’m running Cubase 6.5.0 on Win 7 x64, and can no longer get the “Extract Audio From Video File” functionality to work for me like it used to. It’s not a feature that I use very often, so I can’t pinpoint exactly when this problem started for me (perhaps since the .5 update).

There are 2 ways that I know of of to access this feature:

  • Through File/Import Video/appropriate checkbox
  • Through context menu option in the pool.

Neither option complains of any error, nor is any error logged to Windows Event Viewer

I have tried using this feature with .mov, .avi, .mp4 to no avail.

Any tips/suggestions?

Thanks in Advance!

I’ve found that some video files don’t have extractable audio (regardless of file format).

I remember seeing it when using the import video dialog. Some videos would have an audio stream, some wouldn’t.
Those with an audio stream would import.
Those that didn’t wouldn’t import (no messages, except that the import progress bar wouldn’t show).

I think that some codecs embed their audio in the video itself, while others just tag on a synced audio stream.

I’d take a look at the video files you’re trying to import in the import video dialog and see if they have any audio streams.
