I am archiving from DAT tape format and am using WaveLab 11.1 on my MacBook Pro to do so. The recorded file is a long contiguous wave file that consists of multiple songs with a pause in-between each one which separates them. I need to select them one at a time and save/export each (song) as a separate “wave” file. I cannot see anywhere in WaveLab or the help file, how to get this done, yet I know that this mode of operation has got to be possible with a professional and trustworthy program as WaveLab. Please assist me if you can.
There are multiple ways to achieve this. I will give you two:
Select each region as you like, one after the other, and for each one, use the “Select Audio Range” option as in the picture below.
Select each region one by one, and create a pair of markers for each. For each start marker, give each head marker the name of the future file. Then select the option “All Marker Regions”.
Then you can render all regions as files in just one operation. This is the way I would do it…
record the DAT in, then setup an audio montage, put the long recorded file into it, use the CD markers (red ones) to separate it out
(>) at the start of the file
(<>) at the points where you want to split the file
(<) at the end of the long file at the point you want it to finish
name the files as you need to (the end one doesn’t need a name)
render out using “all marked regions” if you want them all exported, or “specific marked region” if you want one at a time
you can get clever and auto split top and tails, and auto set gaps & markers (and batch rename them if required too) with a few button presses, plus auto add metadata but thats for another time
if you’ve got the rough time noted for any errors, its easy enough then to patch a fix within the montage if you need to use a different dat player to get that section to go through,
you can record straight into the montage if you wish, and add markers as you go (I don’t do it that way so I can keep everything separate for my processes), but if you do make sure autosave is on if there is any crashing
