Facing a delay on playback in Cubase 14

Hello, I just downloaded the trial for Cubase 14 pro. I am facing a slight delay of 0.5-1 second everytime i press the spacebar to ‘play’.

This does not happen in Logic - as soon as i press the spacebar, the track starts playing.

Is there any way to fix this in Cubase?

I am using an M1 Max Mac Studio with 64gb of RAM and 1 TB storage. My audio interface is an SSL 2.

I’d appreciate any help! Thank you

Can you check your buffer size?
You should find it at Studio - Studio Setup - “Your Audio Interface” - Control Panel.
If the buffer size is large put it lower.

Buffer size is 256. Reducing it to 192 makes no difference

256 is small enough, it shouldn’t cause a noticable delay, the problem is somewhere else.
What is the input and output latency in that is displayed next to the control panel button?

VST Instruments or FX in use? Some can cause particular problems on playback.

Input latency - 8.583 ms
Output latency - 8.354 ms

Happens in all tracks irrespective of the VST used

Is control room active? Any plugins in control room inserts?

Not active

It can be a plugin in your project, for instance if I have Waves De-Breath on a track the whole project slows down.

I dont have any plugins inserted

Are you sure? Sometimes a plugin is hard to find. How many and what kind of tracks?

Yeah just one instance of Kontakt. Zero inserts.

Does it have same latency when you remove Kontakt?

I’m experiencing the same delay - completely empty project. When pressing space bar, the play button graphic immediately turns green, but it takes the actual transport 0.5 seconds before it starts moving. All my other DAWs play instantly.

Are you sure that the Pre-roll function hasn’t been inadvertently activated ?

C14_Pre-rollActivated

Cubase will always fill up its buffers before commencing playback.
This is the latency of the audio interface + channel latencies caused by plugins + ASIO Guard.
From my experience talking to people there is usually an exageration when talking about time durations. So when you say 0.5 seconds it might as well be 0.2 seconds (no disrespect intended, I do the same exageration). That would fit be ASIO Guard on High and interface latency.

Having just experienced the very same issue, I’ve had to switch back to studio one as it’s a really irksome drawback. I had great hopes for switching to Cubase but I’ll have to keep an eye on developments before committing.

I have the same issue. Empty project , no plugins, no control room. Macbook m1 pro.
Just jumped to the mac. On Windows it just works ok. It is so annoing I cant have a talk with real support. We only have a forum and cubase support just dont answer this question. We pay money for it, please fix it or give us feedback.

have you handle this?
