Fadr.com claims separation of 15 stems

Anybody have any experience with this?

They claim 15 different unmix stems, but I can’t see where they ever identify them, other than mentioning vocal, bass, drums and melody. I guess if we include SL’s unmix drums, that is nearly 10 stems.

What are the 15 stems they can’t tell us? Maybe jaw harp or kazoo?

Clicking on the box containing “Vocals and 15 more” leads to
the stems page of that site,

From left to right, I’m guessing the icons to mean:

  1. All vocals
  2. Everything but vocals
  3. Lead vocals
  4. Backup vocals
  5. All drums/percussion
  6. Kick
  7. Snare
  8. Hi Hats
  9. Keyboards/synths
  10. Pianos
  11. Electric Guitars
  12. Acoustic guitars
  13. Strings
  14. Brass
  15. Synth bass (just a wild guess, because it’s next to the other bass icon?)
  16. Electric bass guitar

Again: The above are merely guesses without having tried it, because I despise cloud services where I have to upload, because these days I work mostly with private original material, that I don’t want to be ingested by a cloud service.

SL Pro running locally is one of the very big value propositions for me and I hope it stays that way.

Unfortunately none of the icons seem to represent either of those

It will. Some customers have very strict offline requirements, and I’m personally not a big fan of cloud processing.

I do not care for software rental either

I avoid subscriptions with a passion. Some are unavoidable, such as your electric bill and cell phone. And I pay for Ring service and a few other monthly things. But what those things all have in common is that I use the service more-or-less continuously. So the subscription is simply a payment plan for something I will be using indefinitely on a daily basis.

Most software is different. Some months I might produce 5-10 videos. Other months, I do none at all. The software product I use (PowerDirector) is being very heavy-handed about pushing people to subscription payments. I will never do that, but if they offer regular feature improvements, I am perfectly happy to pay for each release if it has good content, even if that ends up being more than the subscription price. It is a matter of having control over my expenses.

The same is true for SL, Cubase and most of the plug-ins. I love these products, and am perfectly happy to pay for upgrades at any reasonable price. But if they ever try to force me to allow automatic charges to my bank account, I’m gone.

If I ran an accounting business, where I am using the accounting software every day, certainly a subscription makes some sense, particularly considering it is deductible. Likewise for a legal practice that uses software for research. For me, the only thing that might fit into that category is Dorico, because I really do use that at least weekly and the pain to move to another product would be too great. Don’t tell the Dorico guys I might pay a subscription, because I’d much rather pay for each release as an affirmative decision, even if it is more money than a subscription.
