A quick question about a workaround for fake time signatures - I’m using these to aid in creating music where instruments play in different tempi & time signatures, and as a result don’t share common barlines.
I’m using the method suggested here - How to copy time signature into Shift-X text? - which is working fine. The difficulty is that there seems to be the equivalent of line spacing between the two glyphs, which means the fake signature (first image) doesn’t render like the regular ones (second image). Wondering if I’m missing a step in the process here… Many thanks in advance for your help.
Just to eliminate the possibility of not needing a workaround in the first place: are you definitely not able to use independent time signatures in your situation? To input a time signature on just the selected staves, you can either Alt/Opt-Return to close the time signatures popover or Alt/Opt-click time signatures in the panel.
Hi Lillie! I am able to use independent time signatures, but the parts they relate to are in independent tempi. In the Bach ensemble on Scoring Notes, the time signatures are different, but the pulse is common, e.g. the barlines coincide - I’m trying to notate a truly independent line by way of tuplets/faked time signatures, if that makes sense. If it is possible to have multiple tempi running simultaneously natively, that would of course be fantastic.
Hi Lillie, a quick update - I have managed to achieve what I was after, though not totally using the method in the link above; in the end I calculated the ratio of the two tempi, and inserted some of those lovely irrational time signatures, then worked around it with fake tempo/time signature text and tuplets.
The ‘line spacing’ problem I managed to resolve by setting the Leading attribute in the text popover to 34% - I did try altering this initially, but for whatever reason it didn’t seem to work. Thanks for your suggestion though, I think that set me off more on the right train of thought.
I have a feeling that it should be possible — albeit rather complicated — to use regular time signatures instead of faking it with Shift-X text items. Any TS can be specified as starting with a pick-up bar, and provided you can determine a certain ratio between the different tempi, any measure could carry e.g. 4/4 while still corresponding to say, 3 crotchets in another part. Fill this bar with a 4:3 invisible tuplet and you have faked a parallel tempo.
