Feature proposition : export/save montage including superclips

Hi :waving_hand:, in the Audio Montage,

I really appreciate the Export Montage function, it works perfectly to save all clips in the same place.

But sometimes clients send stems, and I use SuperClips to assemble those stems.

I don’t know the correct procedure when exporting to make sure the SuperClips are also saved. If this already exists, maybe it could be exposed more clearly in the export UI, and if not, it would be great to have this feature.

Right now, when I export the montage and open the archive, the SuperClip is just an empty link.

So for the moment I save the SuperClip separately, and if later the client finally needs something, I have to carefully drag and drop the exported SuperClip montage back into the main exported montage (being extremely careful that it lands exactly at the correct timecode, etc.). Usually I place a marker for that.

Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something?

Would there be a simpler and less risky way to handle this?

— mistake I often make with SuperClips —

Another thing about SuperClips: there’s an error I’ve made several times.

By mistake, I leave a tiny time gap between clips when stacking the files to build a SuperClip — for example when a client replaces a stem.

This has happened to me in several situations without noticing it until it was too late.

It’s my fault, I’m human, misalignment happens…

But as a safety feature, it would be great if WaveLab could display something blinking or a flashy orange/red ghost clip inside the SuperClip to signal a small gap at the start of some tracks that looks abnormal (i.e. not all clips start at the same position / some have a small unintended gap).

I don’t know if I’m being clear?

This kind of control/safeguard feature would really help me avoid errors by clearly flagging them.

Since SuperClips are actually external audio montages, they need to be exported as well. I think what you should try to do is export a project, not a montage. Because if all the audio montages are part of the project, the archive should contain everything.

Thanks a lot great :+1:

I’ll try that.

Do you think about something that would help as safeguard with slightly misalign clip mistakes

I don’t know exactly what your procedures are.
But there are several snapping options in WaveLab that could help aligning clips.

And if you need to maintain specific gaps between clips, there is this useful feature in WaveLab called cue-points

It’s mainly aligning correctly stems.

Most of the time there is no problems.

I shouldn’t make mistakes. But i do and in worse case I don’t t notice. It especially happens when its 1st version and haven’t really eared the track, or in corrections adding a stem or replacing etc. It more about a visual indication that something could be wrong should be checked.

If you set the timeline in sample units and use the clip window to check start times, you have a clear visual cue that everything is in order.
