Feature request: "Advance Caret" but backwards

I only use typing for entering music if I can avoid the trackpad (don’t use the mouse), and I find myself going back and forth a lot, especially when writing across multiple staves. I miss having a counterpart to “Advance Caret” for going backwards. Sure I can use the left arrow but then it moves by grid duration, not input duration, so most of the time it feels like slowing down. That would be particularly useful in Lock Duration mode, which is use a lot.

OT: Also please give us an option to use Duplicate to Staff Above/Below to erase previous music, not add notes on top of it (maybe using Chord Mode?). I might make a different post for that one

While waiting for that to be implemented (if ever), you might benefit from Move Caret Left by Bar (Cmd/Ctrl Arrow Left)

It’s like the hopping procession of Echternach. Sometimes you have to go back before you can go forward

Do you have an objection to using copy/paste?

Yes thank you, I knew that one  I guess my use case would be 90% in Lock Duration mode but still, that would be great. (I had no idea what Echternach was, I had to look it up. Edifying)

I got used to duplicating/moving music across staves because it’s so quick and easy, and I guess I don’t see a lot of use cases where you’d want to duplicate on top of existing music, especially without knowing to which voice you’re copying etc…

Of course copy/paste works but then it takes 3 to 4 commands instead of one.

Not so helpful in your case, but, ideally, we should be able to select bars with the mouse and move or copy them anywhere in the score. A simple ctrl/cmd press while dragging to toggle between additive or destructive would also be nice.

You can Alt-click any selection to copy it to a new location, overwriting the existing contents.

You actually can select and drag to move material: After making your selection, grab one of the noteheads and first drag a little horizontally, then continue dragging in any direction. (If your first move is vertical, then Dorico just repitches the notes.)

It does seem odd that Move/Duplicate work differently from copy/paste in this regard: the latter respects chord mode, but the former does not.
