As far as I know, on the machines with the built-in multi-touch screen, the keys on the keyboard panel are playbar. Am I right?
However, there are many machines without a multi-touch screen. For these users, could you assign such functionality to the keys on the computer keyboard by pressing the
pressing Cap Lock or
button on the keyboard panel?
The main goal of this idea is not only to enter a note by typing a key into the score, but also to listen to the chord by pressing several keys on the computer keyboard simultaneously in real time.
Some DAWs have this feature. Logic Audio Pro and Ableton Live for example:
all Dorico key assignments should be temporarily disabled when Cap Lock is on.
Then the key mapping will be similar to
Musical Typing of Apple Logic Pro or
Computer MIDI Keyboard of Ableton Live.
Personally, I have assigned the following map in my own code for SuperCollider (the following three keys are not chord-friendly: ‘-’, ‘[’ and ‘]’. Otherwise I can hear up to six-note chords on MacOS):
(The numbers in the buttons are the number of semitones from MIDI pitch 48.)
