I frequently set vocal music where it’s useful to split bars to aid with legibility of lyrics. Currently, Dorico shows partial bars with bar numbers in square brackets. Would it be possible to create an option where, instead, a number is shown over the beginning of the next complete bar? With children and less experienced musicians, the bracketed numbers can be confusing.
I’ve not posted anything before, so thank you all for the superb software; it’s a real pleasure working in Dorico these days.

Since that option doesn’t currently exist, one thing you can do is turn off this option, in Layout Options > Bar Numbers.
This is a per-layout setting, but you can set it for all layouts at once by selecting them all in the right-hand panel.
Then you can force the bar number to appear in the next measure by adding a Bar Number Change and just choosing Continue Primary and clicking OK. Note that this bar number will appear in any layout that contains music in that bar; you will have to explicitly hide it (in the Properties panel, with “Set local properties” set to “Locally”) in any layout where you don’t want it to appear.
