Hi everyone,
I’m writting to suggest a feature to Dorico, regardind chord notation.
In Brazil we have a chord notation scheme that was consolidated and proposed by Almir Chediak in a very popular book from 1984. This scheme is really popular and broadly taught in many universities and music schools from Brazil, and is used in many MPB and Bossa Nova songbooks.
The notation scheme is the following:
I tried to configure this scheme in Dorico Elements and Pro. The only two chords that were not possible to configure in Dorico Elements with builtin options were the maj7 (here we write 7M), and the 7 sus 4.
In Dorico Pro I edited the visual representation maj7 chord (in the variantion M7) to invert the 7 and M to become 7M. The result was visually very acceptable, but 7M still not being accepted as a valid input variation of maj7, what is very desirable.
My suggestion is to have a new option for major seventh that consider 7M as a valid option in this screen of Dorico Elements (at the side of M7, for exemple), and maybe, a new preset “Brazilian” with this option 7M already selected.
I think it will be easy to implement. It’s much more a matter of pack and distribute a new visual configuration in a preset, and extend the chord recognition to consider 7M as a valid input variation of a maj7.
I focused my examples on the maj7 chord, but the same applies to 7sus4.
Customizing and packing these layouts certainly will give Dorico a special place in the heart of Brazilian community. Musescore already have it.
Thanks in advance,
Best regards!
Igor
