So, I am googling: “Locate When Clicked in Empty Space” and the first 5 topics that come up mention exactly what I’m looking for - to be able to simply click on the empty space in a midi editor, for instance, and have the playhead just go there. And that is WITHOUT holding down the Ctrl key.
And as far as I understand, this feature is STILL not implemented - at least in C13.
Is Steinberg serious?
I understand if this feature required some extremely high, specialized programming skill, that only a special few geniuses in the world had, but come on.
People have requested this simple, yet useful feature for YEARS now, and the only reason NOT to implement it is an arbitrary reason, which is - to save it for the future versions of Cubase, just to make people pay some more.
That is a good point. I am not saying that they should permanently change the program’s behavior, but perhaps add an extra option for those who want it.
What if they added several modes, that could be bound to hotkeys.
A mode where you could click around the midi editor and it would take your playhead there (without the Ctrl key).
Another mode where clicking around the empty space would simply deselect any selected midi notes, and not move the cursor / playhead.
And maybe something inbetween those two modes - but I can’t think of anything specific.
I use a drawing tablet and I often find myself inside of the midi editor, where I just want to replay a melody from a specific point in time, just by clicking there. But having to press Ctrl to do it puts strain on my left hand and breaks my flow.
Especially when I don’t need to press down the Ctrl key in the Project Window.
In other words, it could be nice if Cubase could at least be set up to behave consistently, whether you are in a midi editor or in the Project Window.
If you have a mouse with extra buttons, you could always assign SHIFT/ALT to one of them and then you just hold and click in the space to move the cursor.
