Figured bass 65 chord

I enter a lot of figured bass, and I find the popover really helpful and inputting generally intuitive and easy.

However, quite often when one adds 6,5 in the figured bass popover, Dorico assigns the figure 5b(flat). This is a completely different chord (or was when was a student back in the dark ages). I know I can override this by putting ! in front of the input, but it is frustrating especially when an error creeps in as I have not picked it up. I have looked at the figured bass options with my very experienced continuo player and we can’t see anything we can change there to stop this occurring.

Also, Dorico sometimes will add a sharp/flat to a figure when this is not what is wanted; and there is no way of getting rid of that as far as I can see (! doesn’t work).

Any ideas what this happens and how to stop it, or is it Dorico being too clever for it’s own, or rather my, good.

Thanks

You can go to Note Input Options and change “Figured Bass” to “Input literally”.

Note, that you only need to input a comma if there is an ambiguous input, like 7# or 7,#

Hello Philip,

I haven’t used Dorico’s built-in Figured bass tool in a long time, as it remains extremely capricious.

See this post, and try “GoFigure” font, by Ben Wiggy instead.

It may be this Engraving option…?
