Can Dorico do something like layers in Finale were multiple notes can be written on the same staff each with it’s own midi sound?
There is an independent voice feature where you can write different voices in a single staff and assign them to different virtual instruments
If this is for eg an Oboe and Cor Anglais to share a stave in the full score, take a look at condensing instead:
FYI what Finale termed “layers”, in Dorico is known as “voices”.
I think you’re just asking about “Voices”, which is analogous to Finale’s Layers.
Once you’ve got multiple voices on the same staff: by default they all route through the same MIDI output, but you can then configure them to them have independent playback, which is what the first link above is about.
Perfect! I’m coming from Finale. I’m trying to set up templates like the ones I created using Finale. So far I’ve been able to do everything in Dorico that I’ve been able to do in Finale, it’s just done differently. That’s fine, it will just take some getting used to but as long as I can do it then everything is good. Thanks!
