I just got round to taking advantage of the VSL voucher sale and invested in the new(ish) solo violin and cello. A major improvement in overall musicality without a doubt though there are quite a lot of things to investigate – particularly with some odd balances.
Anyway, I reworked the finale of my most recent string quartet which is a largely cheerful (though certainly with some shadows) relatively neo-classical piece which a few of you might find fun. The viola hasn’t yet been released so is still the old one.
thanks – I’m pretty happy with the instruments as well though there’s still quite a bit of programming in the EM left.
In the meantime, I did the rest of the quartet as well with the new instruments so the whole thing can be heard on Reelcrafter for anyone who might have liked what they heard so far.
as with all my works, this is straight from Dorico. I started with the VSL Expression Maps but have already had to make numerous changes to the controllers and balance (to say nothing of all the useful articulations which have been ignored – the most important for a notation environment I’ve started to create p.t’s for and add in)
well the VSL solo strings are now finally complete and I lost no time in preparing a new version which now incorporates all the new instruments and in addition have made numerous changes to try and make it sound more dynamic including “live” vibrato changes in appropriate places and a rather extended coda. The new version is in the same location – for anyone just wanting the last movement, I also updated the Box file Box
Thanks, Marc. I suspect this will now be my preferred library for quartet writing in general because of the overall quality and flexibility but there will still be a place for alternative views – including the older VSL Studio set in some scenarios.
