Finale Refugees: Learn these Popovers to make your life in Dorico a lot easier!

As I’ve seen questions regarding this now several times on here and in the facebook groups etc. here’s a little service post for all people learning Dorico after coming from Finale:

It cannot be stressed enough how incredibly powerful the popovers in Dorico are (especially the way too neglected Shift+I popover) and you will be able to increase your work flow tremendously by getting a good understanding of them and how to invoke them.

I couldn’t find a link to a web version of that PDF so I’m attaching it here but please spend some time reading through these and memorize the ones that are most relevant for you, it’s gonna save you a lot of time!

Can’t agree more, popovers are really fantastic.

Here is a link to the Webhelp

Online documentation tip: if you follow this link, you’ll see relevant documents (webhelp and PDFs) for Dorico Pro 5.1.

You can change the filters on the left for Elements or SE, or indeed previous versions of Dorico.

(Just remember to deactivate “Search in document titles only” on the left when you want to start searching for information, as otherwise your search will be restricted to matches in those very-top-line titles.)

Often you can simply start typing what you want to do and the popover will make the right suggestion.

Adding to this, and when in doubt, learn to use ‘J’ for Jump Bar - you can often find a lot of additional tasks here by simply typing a few letters and it will offer suggestions to take you immediately where you want to go! Super handy for selection filtering, utilities, and various option menus.
