Fingering behavior on cross staff chords

I am noticing the following behavior with fingering on cross staff notes in chords:

A Fingering entered normally 2,1 in Fingering Popover in Write mode

B Both fingerings are draggable in Engrave mode

C Lower note moved to lower staff with keyboard command M

D Now the lower number 1 is no longer draggable.

E As well, the lower number cannot be flipped to the other staff with the F keyboard command. However the upper number can be flipped with the keyboard command but it can’t be flipped back with the keyboard command.

F Both numbers may be flipped back and forth between the staves by using the Properties panel Staff-relative position and now both numbers are draggable.

G If both numbers are flipped to the bottom staff with either the keyboard command or the Properties panel, we are back to situation D where only one of the numbers is draggable.

What I find when I cross one of the notes to the left-hand staff is that both fingerings remain nudgeable/draggable. The fingering associated with the note that has been crossed to the other staff automatically moves to the other staff along with the note, and it remains draggable. I’m not sure how to contrive the situation you show here where the fingering remains on the right-hand staff after you cross a note to the other staff.

You’re correct about the flipping behaviour, however. I’m not sure what’s going on there, but I have made a note to investigate. In the meantime, you can use Edit > Reset Position to “un-flip” a selected fingering in Engrave mode.

Thank you, @dspreadbury Here are the steps I used.

Enter fingering in popover:
1

Result:
2

Select note to be moved:
3

Apply keyboard command M to move to lower staff:
4

Both numbers stay on upper staff.

5

The 2 is draggable, the 1 is not:
5

Here is the file itself in case that would be helpful:
Test 2.dorico (3.2 MB)

Thanks, John. I can now see the difference, which is that you need to have Position for fingerings on cross-staff chords set to anything other than Ignore cross-staff chords (on the Fingering page of Engraving Options). I’ve made a note of this and we’ll try to improve this in due course.

Thank you @dspreadbury.

I checked the setting and I have this set to Position on stem side in the project file in which this occurred and also in the test file I attached, not ignore cross-staff chords so I assume that you meant that it needs to be set to something other than ignore cross-staff chords for the problem to arise.
