Flow Header Issues with multiple flows on page

I need to recreate a method book in Dorico and am determined to do it solely in Dorico and with as few “work arounds” as possible. My first thought was to use only the Master Chain (MA) but use multiple frames when needed for graphics etc. When I try to manipulate the frames this occurs. Is this a limitation of Dorico 6 or a bug?

I have to confess I’m not sure what your exact goal is. But if your issue is indeed with “flow headers with multiple flows on page”, you might want to explore the Setup mode, rightclick the name of the layout you’re in, and investigate ‘Flow Heading Overrides’:

There are a number of threads about creating worksheets, but following @Elwro’s lead, here’s a simple alternative…

Edit your Default Flow Header (just needs to be left-justified rather than centre-justified. And perhaps font changes to suit)
In Layout Options, allow multiple flows on a page.

There is absolutely no need to mess with music frames, nor manually adding text frames (which, in general, is a messy process)

Here’s a simple example…

Thanks for the reply. My goal is to replicate an existing method book (in a new key) which has graphic inserts between staves. I know I can move a staff vertically, but the multiple frame option seems like it is made for this situation. When I attempt to adjust a frame I get the behaviour you can see in the video. Am I following the wrong process or is this a bug?

It’s hard to see what’s happening in your video. It looks like you moved up the bottom of the music frame, leaving the text frames in place…..and the text in the frames changed? I’m guessing you had some kind of text token in the page template, but I don’t know what it is (and therefore why it changed).

The text frames are actually flow headers which Dorico has created (because of multiple flows per page set to on) When the music frame is resized, the flow headers go crazy as seen in the video.

Apologies, I have no experience with graphical inserts. I do hope the better informed folks in this thread will help you out!

Could you show what you’re trying to achieve? It’s diffucult to guess why you want to raise the bottom of the music frame in your video.

If your aim is to have plenty of room at the bottom of the first page, move the music frame in the template and not directly in the page.

See the difference here:

(Or you can also insert Frame Breaks)

Attached is the page I’m trying to recreate. The large gaps required for text and instruction are proving trickier to manage than I had expected.

I think the simplest approach for this kind of setup is to use Flow Headings, different for each Flow (thanks to the Flow Heading Overrides feature in Dorico 6). Here I don’t have to create or drag any frames in the page, and the positioning is handled automatically. You won’t have any problem if you add music, or if you change the spacing gaps, etc.

Maybe people who are more experienced in this area will have other ideas!

My friend, you have just literally saved me hours. Thanks for the response. Worksheet, method creation is so good in Dorico (against the alternatives) but I was really hoping that 6 would add some functionality to copy and paste frames, and align or distribute frames more easily. Hopefully in the future!
