Focusrite 2i2 won't connect to cubase (Elements) but will connect to garageband

Hi there,

I’m having trouble seeing the scarlett 2i2 in cubase. It was fine and then I disconnected everything and reconnected and now nothing.

The mac can see it and garageband too but not cubase. It is not showing in the VST either.

can somebody please help with this? It has happened before but I disconnected everything and then reconnected and it was fine. But not this time.

Any help appreciated,
Giles

Hi Giles,

It sounds like the issue you’re experiencing might be related to the audio device settings in Cubase. Here are a few things you can try:

  1. Check your audio device settings in Cubase:
  • Go to “Studio” → “Audio Connections” in the top menu bar.
  • Check that the Scarlett 2i2 is selected as the audio device for both input and output.
  • If it’s not listed, click “Add Bus” and select “Scarlett 2i2” from the drop-down menu.
  1. Check your VST settings:
  • Go to “Devices” → “VST Connections” in the top menu bar.
  • Check that the Scarlett 2i2 is listed as an input and output device.
  • If it’s not listed, click “Add Bus” and select “Scarlett 2i2” from the drop-down menu.
  1. Try restarting Cubase:
  • Sometimes simply restarting Cubase can solve audio device recognition issues.
  1. Check your Scarlett 2i2’s firmware and driver:
  • Ensure that your Scarlett 2i2’s firmware and driver are up to date. You can download the latest version from the Focusrite website.

If none of these steps solve the issue, you may need to contact Focusrite support for further assistance.

I hope this helps!

Hi,

thanks for your quick response–appreciated.

I tried adding bus but it’s not coming up as an option.

Is there definitely a driver for the 2i2 because when I go to focusrite it says no drivers are required for a mac.

confusing.

Anyway thanks for your help,
Giles

ok sorted. It’s now appearing. Phew!! thanks for your help.

How did you fix it; I m havcing the same problem?

I’m also having a hard time. I feel like it should be this complicated lol but I’m a bit of a newbie.

I’m also stuck with the issue of the Scarlett not showing in Audio Connections.

Original Issue

Cubase Pro 14.0.20 Build 240 for Apple Silicon
macOS Sonoma 14.3

Originally, the Scarlett 2i2 showed up in Cubase and I could record and play back. I then disconnected my device and switched Cubase to use the Built-In audio. Now, when I re-connect the Scarlett, it doesn’t show in Cubase. I’ve tried restarting the mac and unplugging the device, but no change. I can, however, use the Scarlett in all other applications (e.g. Spotify, Voice Memos, Garage Band), so it seems to be a Cubase issue.

Is there some way to reset the Cubase audio device settings to defaults? Maybe I messed something up when I selected the built-in device.

(Edit) Found a solution for me:

  • Studio > Studio Setup
  • Audio System > ASIO Driver > Change to Scarlett 2i2
  • Return to Studio > Audio Connections > Now I can select the device again
