Font issue with Dorico 6 - Solved after Windows reboot

So are there any other suggestions to help me resolve the issue on my Windows computer?

The Nepomuk font has been installed for a few years and I’ve been using it successfully with Dorico 5 with absolutely no issues, it’s my default text font.

I updated it, just in case there were changes brought to the font recently. Rebooted the computer multiple times. Cleared the font cache.

And every time I try to set my items to use the Nepomuk font, I get all caps, despite selecting “regular”.

If I have to, I will use Academico, but I’d much rather use my preferred font, which is Nepomuk. So far all the scores I’ve sent to my distributor have used this font for text, and all my cover pages and preparatory pages use the font with no issues (from my publishing software.)

Two things to try:

  1. Does this document work for you?
    Untitled Project 1.dorico (417.2 KB)

  2. Can you upload a document here from your end?

Does the problem persist in a brand new project?

If you’ve set Nepomuk to be your default font by saving defaults in the Library dialogs, try moving your userlibrary.xml file out of the way (it’s in %APPDATA%\Steinberg\Dorico 6) and start a new project from one of the factory templates, then go and choose Nepomuk Regular in the paragraph styles dialog. What happens then?

I assume it always looks like this for you:

This is Nepomuk-RegularSC.otf. You have deleted the SC versions in the Windows Fonts directory and restarted the computer. You have also cleared the Windows font cache. Is it possible that the SC font is still lurking around somewhere? Have you done a file search?

Yes, that is exactly the result I get.

I do not have a font specifically called that, but there is one called Nepomuk SmallCaps Regular.

Have you tried to delete Nepomuk SmallCaps?

Finally!

Yes, the culprit was the Nepomuk SmallCaps font. once I was finally able to uninstall both versions of that (regular and bold), everything worked perfectly!!

I wonder what happened?

Is this due to how the new version of Dorico now handles fonts?

That may have been an old version. I did have a hell of a job getting the Small Caps variants to not interfere with the Regular font on Windows.

Thank-you all for the help.

And apologies to Daniel for not using Academico. It’s nothing against your font, I just prefer Nepomuk as my default text font for my personal editions. Replacing all of my scores deposited with my distributor so that they all use a different font would be a massive amount of work, not only because of the text fonts within the music files themselves, but also for cover pages and fontispice and index pages, as well as the required biographical pages included in all our scores.

No apology needed for using a font other than Academico. I don’t always use it myself
