Hi there,
I’m making a worksheet for a student showing different 1 beat rhythms. I’d like the rest in exercise P in the screenshot to show as a crotchet rather than a semi-breve but I can’t find a way of doing this. Is it possible?
Double click at the beginning of example P to invoke the caret (or select the rest and hit Shift-N or Return/Enter).
Type O to turn on Force Duration.
Type , (comma) to turn on rest input.
Type 6 for a crotchet.
Type any letter A-G or the letter Y (which is the key command for the default pitch, which we probably don’t need to get into here).
edit: actually, if you just select the rest and hit O 6 that might work, and is a couple of steps quicker.
That should give you a crotchet rest, but may well give you subsequent rests. These can be removed using either the System Track or by typing I to turn on Insert mode and then selecting and deleting.
Unfortunately that doesn’t work. The rest is showing as a crotchet in the left panel but displaying as a semi-breve. The time signature is currently set to 1/4, could this be the issue?
I suspect you’re using a Percussion Kit. Percussion Kits don’t currently offer the flexibility around rests that regular pitched or unpitched instruments offer.
There might be a better solution - I’m not sure - but by way of a hacky workaround you could input a 1:1 tuplet and then hide the tuplet number from the properties panel:
Select the rest.
Type ;
Type 1:1 Enter
The “1” will be highlighted orange.
In the properies panel, turn on the Number property and if necessary, set it to the bracket only option like so:
Brilliant, that worked. Excellent hacky work around. Thank you!
