Force expanded plugin tree

When I open an insert plugin from my very limited list of about 30 plugins, I want to see them all expanded every time I open a new insert/vst fx.
This is how that looks:

But when I open my plugin list I see this every time:

All folders collapsed. And for people with many plugins this is surely great. And yes, it is not many clicks to expand them or to click on the little + sign which expands the tree… but I just want to have less/no klicks =)

The feature I wanna see is that I right click on the little + sign and can choose “allways expanded” or “Allways minimized” =)

Lots of apreciation your way Steinberg. This program has saved my life for 30 years and it only gets better.

Could be useful. I don’t think it is possible though. I always search for my plugins and once I am close the plugin will show up in an expanded folder. I had the same thinking as you when Cubase did get the searchable plugins, but I always use search (I have way too many plugins) and that just works great for me.

If I use search function then Im limited to the ones I can remember I have.
But thats me. and Thats why I decided to have very few plugins but Im learnign to use them very well. I had about 40 compressors at some point and the more plug ins, the more I get crippled from it. I need 3 different compressors that are very versatile in their area. thus I have very few plug ins in the list. I have way more plugins allready loaded into the mixconsole but they are there permanent ( analysers, mastering tools etc) and after that I just removed the plugins which will show in the plug in list.

My request may seem like a small small detail to upgrade/change but when Cubase upgrades 100 of them small ones then we save hundreds of thousands of clicks. For me the work flow is everything and every little detail counts. Whats bothering me the most is that Sometimes it opens expanded and sometimes it dont.

I cant figure out why it behaves like that. One idea I had was that if I leave the plugins expanded in the vst plugin manager then they open expanded in the channel inserts XD. WHY does it opens expanded sometimes and collapsed sometimes? =)

This detail itches me in a positive and curious way and I am absolutely sure that this can be fixed. You think it is not possible… and I think it is possible. Time will tell =)

If you want to limit the number of plugins that are offered, can’t you just go into Studio>Plugin Manager and create your own list of plugins that you want available to choose from? I thought that was what it did. The full list is the default. Maybe this is not what you meant.

Same here. This way I can even browse through these favorites using mcu commands pretty fast.

It’s funny because I would prefer to have the folders collapsed by default, but they’re always presented expanded.
This subject was talked about a couple of years ago and from what I remember, there is no rhyme or reason to why Cubase shows one or the other.

The plugin list could really use an overhaul. I’d like to do simple things like sort alphabetically within a folder but there’s just no way. The Mediabay also leaves things to be desired. Presets for what info that shows for one. I love the concept, I’m using Mediabay more and more, but sometimes I bump into things that don’t make much sense.

I have good news for you, In cubase 13 you can drag and drop vst plugins inside the folders so you can have em as you please. =)

I have created the plugin list that I desire in the plugin manager.
Now I have only 30 plugins. simple and easy.
But when I go to the mixconsole and load a plugin on the insert, the plugin tree/folders are shown collapsed and I want all folders to show open. SO I can see ALL plugins directly in a long list.

I hope this made more sense. Im sorry If I couldnt describe my feature request moreclear.

Have a nice day sir and thanks for your reply.

A tree-like presentation such as this should have Collapse and Expand commands from the get go. I have folders within folders, these commands would help. It doesn’t matter if you don’t need them, someone out there does.
It’s all part and parcel of devs rolling their own controls instead of using Windows’ own. Toolbars, menus, listviews, treeviews, windows, no one seems to use the Windows supplied controls anymore. And too few have as much functionality, this topic being a case in point.

I know, it’s been possible for a long time. My post was about automatic sorting.
