…particularly because it would be nice to “escape” the popover, have the text be selected, and be able to switch to Engrave to nudge it, all without touching the mouse.
Text popover? Do you mean Lyrics popover? Shift-x and alt-shift-x do not open any popover (and indeed, cmd-enter exits that “text input mode”)
