(FR?) Edit - Crossfade question / request...

I’m a bit confused. This is what I do:

  1. select a range on a dialog track where I want to replace a sound (mouth click, whatever) with room tone.

  2. move down to a track below which has room tone (with selection range intact) and copy.

  3. move back up and delete audio in that range

  4. paste in what is now a gap.

  5. hit crossfade.

now, at this point Nuendo appears to be crossfading “over” the new audio and overlapping the original clips gap. Can anyone explain the logic in this? I would have thought that it would either not crossfade anything since there’d be no overlaps at all, or do crossfades where the clips touch each other - at the “borders”…

am I missing something here?..

nobody?

I think I understand what you are talking about.

The track you are copying and pasting…

I would check and see if you are copying multiple audio tracks (ones under the top one but on the same track). Expand to lanes view may reveal this. I would also check the paste and see if there are layers of audio for when you hit crossfade, it will fade across the entire length of the audio file if there are layers selected when you crossfade.

I’ll check this. It does strike me as counter-intuitive however. Just to clarify for anyone who thinks my writing was unclear:

Track 1: 01010101010101010110101011110110001110101010110101
Track 2: 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

I make a selection in track one based on stuff I want to get rid of, and that section is then what is copied from track 2:

Track 1: 01010101010101010111101011110110001110101010110101
Track 2: 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Then before I paste I delete…

Track 1: 010101010101010101------------10001110101010110101

After I paste I expect to see:

Track 1: 01010101010101010100000000000010001110101010110101

with a crossfade that is ONLY at the beginning / end of that pasted region, in green. Instead I’m seeing a crossfade throughout that red area…
